ATHENS, Ga. - As the eyes of the collegiate tennis world converge on the University of Georgia for the 2008 Southern Intercollegiate Championships, Georgia College & State University's Justin Pickham (Armidale, Australia) and Erick Siqueira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) have made tennis fans take notice with a few wins today (Sept. 19).
Pickham took out Division I competitor Calum Gee of Davidson College with a straight-set finish (7-6, 6-2). Siqueira also downed a D-I player, taking Winthrop University's Roy Sichel 5-7, 7-5, 7-6(2).
Pickham and Siqueira teamed together for a pair of wins today, topping Jerry Sundgren and Bradley Bryan from Morehead State University 8-5 before laying an 8-3 loss on Rasid Winklaar and Oliver Smith from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.
The Bobcats return to action again tomorrow, as Siqueira meets the University of Kentucky's Brad Cox at 9:15 a.m. Pickham draws Austin Roebuck of Georgia Tech, a 10:30 a.m. start. Cox will be a familiar foe for the Bobcats, as Siqueira and Pickham are set to meet the Wildcat and his teammate Bruno Agostinelli in doubles action at 5:30 p.m. The UK duo is the No. 1 seed.
