MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - Senior Erick Siqueira(Sao Paulo, Brazil) of the Georgia College & State University men's tennis team was named the Georgia College Athlete of the Week, the sports information office announced today (Sept. 16). The award honors the top performance by a Bobcat during the week ending Sept. 14. This is the first honor for both Siqueira and the Bobcat tennis team this season.
Siqueira had an outstanding first tournament of the fall season, winning his second-straight Flight ‘A' Singles title at the GCSU Men's Fall Championships. He also teamed with Justin Pickham (Armidale, Australia) to win the Flight ‘A' Doubles title, the third of Siqueira's stellar career.
The exercise science major is a two-time ITA All-American who finished last season ranked No. 5 nationally and No. 1 in the region. He was All-Peach Belt Conference (PBC) player in both singles and doubles, with Francis Yoshimoto (Sao Paulo, Brazil). Siqueira's duo with Yoshimoto was No. 11 nationally and No. 3 in the region at the end of the 2007-08 season.
Siqueria and the rest of the Bobcats are back in action Sept. 27-29 when they travel to Sumter, S.C. for the ITA Southeast Regionals.
