Bobcat Men’s Tennis Falls in ITA Finals, Takes Runner-Up for First Time

MOBILE, Ala. - The Georgia College & State University doubles squad of Erick Siqueira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Justin Pickham (Armidale, Australia) gave the team from Lynn University all they could handle, falling in a three-set marathon for the ITA Division II Men's Tennis Championship tonight (Oct. 17).

Pickham and Siqueira become the only runners-up at this national tournament in Georgia College men's tennis history. GCSU women have won five runner-up trophies.

The No. 2-seed Bobcats squared off with No. 4-seed Julien Carsuzaa and Alessandro Sarra from Lynn University. The Lynn duo played well above their seed, dropping the top-two seeded teams en route to the title.

The Bobcats had a slow start, falling behind 3-0 and 4-1 early, but rebounded well to force a tiebreaker. Lynn eventually took the tiebreaker 7-2, but the momentum carried to the second set for Georgia College.

Pickham and Siqueira won their own tiebreaker in the second set, by 7-3 fashion. Carsuzaa and Sarra then took over in the third set, jumping out to a quick 5-1 lead. The final score was 6-2 giving the Bobcats runner-up honors.

This was just the second loss for Siqueira and Pickham this fall season, their first as a doubles squad. The fall brought home titles at the ITA Southeast Championships, the GCSU Men's Fall Championships and the Chick-Fil-A Intercollegiates.

This ends the fall season for the Bobcats, they pick up the dual season in the spring, looking to improve upon last year's 17-7 finish.
