Pickham Sweeps GCSU and Peach Belt Athlete of the Week Honors
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - Justin Pickham (Armidale, Australia) continues to make headlines this week picking up two victories on Sunday (Feb. 15) against No. 16 Columbus State University along with both the Georgia College & State University Athlete of the Week and the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Athlete of the Week.
Pickham nabbed a pair of wins in Georgia College's 5-4 victory over Columbus State Sunday. He upset No. 23 Frank Suarez 6-2, 6-7, 6-3 in second singles and teamed with Erick Siqueira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) for an 8-2 first doubles win over No. 16 Luis Gonzalez and Suarez.
The GCSU award is Pickham's third of the year, while the PBC honor is his first. He is the first Bobcat men's tennis player to take PBC Player of the Week since Siqueira March 24, 2008.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, Feb. 20 at No. 23 USC Aiken.
