GC Men’s Hoops Falls to Southern Wesleyan in Buzzer-Beater, 76-74
GREENWOOD, S.C. - The Georgia College men's basketball team (5-4) lost 76-74 by a buzzer-beater to Southern Wesleyan University (5-5) Saturday in day two of the Bearcat Holiday Classic hosted by Lander University.
With the game knotted up at 74-74 and seconds remaining, Nicola Lambic ripped down a rebound and fired an outlet pass to Kenny Joyner, banking home the game winner from the elbow with 0.8 seconds left on the clock. The basket was Joyner's second field goal of the day, finishing with seven points.
Senior Quin Bivins (Macon, Ga.) paced the Bobcats with 20 points off the bench, leading four Georgia College players in double figures.
Scott Ferguson (Roswell, Ga.) poured in 19 to go with seven rebounds, while Aaron Robinson (Lawrenceville, Ga.) added 11 points and a game-high six assists. Royal Thomas (LaGrange, Ga.) chipped in with 10 points to the cause.
SWU out-shot the Bobcats 58 percent (30-52) to 46 percent (28-61) from the floor, adding a 33-25 rebounding advantage as well.
Lambic was impressive, combining 21 points with 14 boards in a game the Warriors counted as an exhibition.
The Bobcats are back in action Thursday, Jan. 3 at 7:30 p.m., hosting UNC Pembroke in a return to Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play.
