PENSECOLA, Fla. – Senior guard Nate Hamilton (Snellville, Ga.) spent last season away from basketball, but it didn't take long for him to shake off the rust. Hamilton started the 2012-13 season on the right foot, scoring a career-high 28 points in the 86-65 rout of Palm Beach Atlantic University Saturday in day one of the McDonald Fleming Moorhead Tip-Off Classic at the University of West Florida.
Hamilton hit 10-of-19 from the floor, including 8-of-17 from three-point land en route to his 28 points. He added three steals to the cause as well.
The Bobcats featured balanced scoring as 11 reached the scoring column, but just senior Quin Bivins (Macon, Ga.) joined Hamilton in double figures with 14. Bivins hit 4-of-7 from behind the arc, as GC went 16-of-33 (.485) as a team from long range.
Senior guard Tarrence Chatman (Macon, Ga.) led the squad with six rebounds as the Bobcats were edged 42-38 on the glass. Chatman added seven points as well. Sophomore David Wagner (Dallas, Ga.) responded well to his first Bobcat action, scoring nine points with three boards and two assists. Junior guard Aaron Robinson (Lawrenceville, Ga.) paced the team with six assists to go with his five points.
Georgia College hit half its shots from the floor (33-66) while the Sailfish managed just 36 percent (23-64).
PBA had three players in double-figures, with Marcus Hardy pacing the squad at 18 points and 11 rebounds. Matthew Gierl joined him with a 12-point , 14-rebound double-double, as Jonathan Kriedt added 16 off the bench.
GC men's basketball extends the season-opening win streak to seven, the last loss in an opener coming to Tusculum College in 2005.
The Bobcats take on host West Florida tomorrow, Nov. 11 at 5 p.m. eastern.
