Senior Trio Helps Bobcats Beat Brewton-Parker, 83-70
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College men's basketball team (5-1) extended its win streak to three with an 83-70 victory over Brewton-Parker College (3-5) Saturday at the Centennial Center. The Bobcats led throughout, dominating the glass 47-25 and getting three double-digit scoring efforts from their three seniors.
Forward Ryan Aquino (Roswell, Ga.) was once again a standout for the Bobcats, putting up team-highs with 21 points and 16 rebounds for his fifth-straight double-double effort. Forward Mike Augustine (Waterloo, Ill.) had a season-high 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting, adding seven rebounds. Jared Holmes (Indianapolis) also added 18 points.
The Bobcats started the game on a 14-4 run over the first 5:35. A three pointer by Aquino gave GC the 10-point lead. The largest lead the Bobcats had came in the second half at 65-40 on another Aquino three pointer.
The Bobcats shot well again at 51 percent (35-69) bettering the Barons' effort of 42 percent (22-53). GC 47-25 rebound advantage, including a 32-18 lead on the defensive glass.
Yan Moukoury had 26 points for the Barons to lead all scorers, including 13 free-throws. He was helped by 15 points from former Bobcat Darrie Stephens. Stephens red-shirted the 2009-10 season for GC and won the Slam Dunk Contest at Midnight Madness that season.
The Bobcats are back in action Monday, Nov. 28 at 7:30 p.m. to host the NAIA's Carver Bible College.
