GC Men End Two-Game Slide with 67-65 Victory Over AASU

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – On the strength of Jared Holmes' (Indianapolis) 18 points, four boards and four assists, the Georgia College men's basketball team (8-4, 2-2 PBC) edged Armstrong Atlantic (8-5, 2-3 PBC) 67-65 Saturday in the Centennial Center.

A 14-0 second-half run helped the Bobcats gain control and hold on to end a two-game slide.

Holmes made 7-of-10 shots from the floor, adding in a 4-of-5 effort from the charity stripe. He was helped by a career-high 16 points from Nate Hamilton (Snellville, Ga.) the sixth-straight double-digit game for the sophomore guard. Hamilton made three from long range, and 5-of-6 from the line.

The Bobcats caused 15 turnovers in this one, translating to a 21-13 advantage in points off turnovers. GC controlled the points in the paint 34-18.

The Pirates had four double-digit scorers, led by 16 with 12 rebounds from Brett Goodwell. Jesse Wheeler had 12, Austin Edens 11 and Chris Vanlandingham 10.

The ballgame was a tight one, with nine lead changes and four ties. Neither team had more than an eight-point advantage in the entire contest.

The Bobcats held the lead for the final five minutes, despite Wheeler cutting the score to 59-58 with a pair of free throws at the 2:26 mark. GC held on as Hamilton knocked down 5-of-6 from the free-throw line in the final 1:28.

GC is back in action Monday, Jan. 17 at 5:30 p.m., hosting Flagler College (9-3, 3-1 PBC). The Saints most recently played at the University of Montevallo later tonight.
