MARTINEZ, Ga. - The Peach Belt Conference (PBC) released its annual men's basketball preseason coaches poll today (Oct. 28) with the Georgia College & State University squad slotted fourth. Georgia College was tied for third at the end of last season with a 22-7 mark overall, and 15-5 in PBC contests.
The Bobcats had 114 points in the poll, just four behind No. 3 USC Aiken. Augusta State University was given the top slot with 10 first-place votes and 142 points overall. Clayton State University is picked second at 123 points. The Bobcats garnered three second-place picks.
Georgia College returns three starters from last year's NCAA Tournament-qualifying squad, as the senior backcourt duo of Ty Rowland (Lilburn, Ga.) and Graham Martin (Marietta, Ga.) join junior forward Josh Hurst (Athens, Ga.). The ‘Cats have seven newcomers to this season's roster, many of whom could see significant minutes in the 2009-10 campaign. The Bobcats led the PBC in turnover margin and assist to turnover ratio as well as three-point field goals made in 2008-09.
The Bobcats get into action Thursday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m., traveling to Division I Mercer University for the annual Coaches vs. Cancer exhibition. The regular season opens at home Wednesday, Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m. against Newberry College.
