“80’s on the 8th” Brings Spirited Fans to GCSU Basketball

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The Georgia College & State University men's basketball team (1-0) will host "80s on the 8th" Dec. 8 as it takes on Carver Bible College at 7:30 p.m. in the Centennial Center.

This event encourages all students, faculty, and staff to dress in their ‘80s apparel with a winner for best ‘80s getup receiving $40 to the Brick. "80's on the 8th" is the second spirit event in the "One Team, One Spirit" campaign sponsored by Georgia College Athletics.

"This campaign is full of spirit events that will get students excited to attend games," said Terry Sellers, Bobcat head coach. "Our players always look forward to fans getting involved in the game and with everyone dressed up it will be that much more stimulating for them to play well."

A pre-game bonfire will be held at 6:30 p.m. by the Wellness Depot. Wear you ‘80s attire, bring a friend, a warm beverage, and be ready for an event that will have you ready to cheer on the Bobcats.

The Registered Student Organization (RSO) competition, "Fan Frenzy," will continue to award the most spirited RSO with consideration for the $100 grand prize drawing Jan. 24. All RSOs must be registered and clearly identified in the stands at all games.

"Dressing up eighties-like will be so much fun," said Brenna Cleary, a senior psychology major. "It's like having Halloween twice, but this time it's to support my school."

The "One Team, One Spirit" campaign will resume after Christmas break for the men's basketball games Jan. 10 and 24.

"I have very high hopes for this campaign. I think it is not only creative, but it captures the essence of what we'd all like to see on this campus, a strong sense of community and school pride," said Jud Damon, GCSU Athletics Director. "Athletics teams have the unique ability to engender these things on a college campus and the ‘One Team, One Spirit' campaign will make it happen."

Be sure to join in on the spirit of "80's on the 8th" Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m. at the Centennial Center. Contact Chelsea Wilson with further questions at chelsea_wilson@ecats.gcsu.edu.
