MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - No. 17 Georgia College & State University men's basketball (17-2, 11-2 PBC) used 11 three pointers and 79 percent (22-28) free-throw shooting to down North Georgia College (10-9, 4-9 PBC) 83-75 tonight (Feb. 4) in the Centennial Center.
The Bobcats hit 11 three-pointers on 22 tries, the 12th time this season Georgia College has recorded double-digit threes. The Bobcats hit their first eight free-throw attempts and finished with 22 in a physical game, featuring 46 total fouls. The Saints hit 26-of-32 (.813) from the line.
Junior Graham Martin (Marietta, Ga.) led four double-digit scorers for the Bobcats, hitting 7-of-10 from the floor en route to a game-high 20 points. Martin now has two 20-point games on the season and double-digit scoring in his last 12 games. He added a season-best five assists, five rebounds and four steals for a complete game.
Sophomore Josh Hurst (Athens, Ga.) knocked down a career-high 18 points, including 4-of-5 from three-point. They also got 16 coming from Jake Rios (Bozeman, Mt.) and 14 from Shaun Keaton (Albany, Ga) the latter of the two a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe.
The game was back-and-forth early, featuring six lead changes and four ties. GCSU took the lead for good at the 13:33 mark in the first half on a Rios three.
The Saints had five double-digit scorers, led by 20 points from Andre Morgan, who was 14-of-17 from the free-throw line. LaBrian Lyons had 14 points, while Brody Langston and Xavier Trice added 11 apiece. Anthony Rowe rounded out the scoring with 10 points.
Georgia College now leads the all-time series 33-31, taking the last 13 meetings. Keaton has 1,167 points, 12 behind Ronnie Sims (1982-84) for eighth place in Georgia College history.
The Bobcats have won eight straight and are back in action Wednesday, Feb. 11 hosting No. 15 Armstrong Atlantic State University (16-4, 9-4 PBC) at 7:30 p.m. The Pirates most recently beat Georgia Southwestern State University 61-52 tonight.
