#24 Bobcat Men Hot in Second Half, Beat UNCP 91-70
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - Hitting 10-of-11 three pointers in the second half, No. 24 Georgia College & State University men's basketball (16-2, 10-2 PBC) beat UNC Pembroke (5-14, 2-10 PBC) in the Centennial Center tonight (Feb. 2).
Reigning Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Player of the Week Shaun Keaton (Albany, Ga.) paced the Bobcats with 23 points, including 5-of-7 from three-point for the win. The Bobcats got five double-digit scorers, including 13 from Ken Kemp (Dublin, Ga.), and 11 apiece from Jake Rios (Bozeman, Mt.), Justin Brown (New Orleans) and Graham Martin (Marietta, Ga.).
The Bobcats shot a whopping 45 free throws-hitting 36-compared to UNCP's 14-of-23. This combined with Georgia College's 11-6 advantage in three-pointers helped the Bobcats overcome deficiencies in rebounding 35-23, including 13-6 on the offensive glass.
Kemp was the biggest benefactor of the free-throw bonanza, hitting 11-of-12. Keaton added 8-of-10. Strong defense continued for GCSU tonight, turning UNCP over 24 times for 26 points.
Demarcus Lyday led the Braves with 20 points and eight boards, aided by 14 from Brandon Thomas and 11 points from Marcus Heath.
The win gives the Bobcats seven in a row, and 12 in their last 13. GCSU remains in first in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) standings at 10-2, tied with No. 14 USC Aiken.
The Bobcats will look to extend their seven-game win streak Wednesday, Feb. 4 at 7:30 p.m. hosting North Georgia (10-8, 4-8 PBC). The Saints most recently lost to Lander University tonight 85-79.
