MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – The Georgia College Golf squad improved three slots thanks in part to Thomas Knight (Eastman, Georgia) firing a 71 on day two at the NCAA South/Southeast Super Regional. The Bobcats are in a four-way tie for 14th place, carding an 11-over round today to post plus-25 for the two days of action at the par-72, 7,407-yard Robert Trent Jones at the Shoals.
Knight posted the teams first sub-par round of the tournament with his 71. He carded just one hole over par for the day, and birdied Nos. 6 and 11. He finished the round with 13 straight holes of par or better. Combined with yesterday's 77 he is four-over for the tourney in 36th place.
Senior Harrison Stewart (Roswell, Georgia) is the team leader in 24th in the 108-golfer field after a pair of 73s. Stewart is two-over for the tournament carding three birdies today.
Third on the team and 67th overall is junior Thomas Hodges (Monroe, Georgia). Hodges had a 73 yesterday with today's 79 for eight-over. Hodges battled through a tough front nine, then posted a pair of birdies on the back half to go plus-one there.
No. 1 University of West Florida takes over the top team spot after going nine-under par today. The Argos are 11-under for the tournament. No. 2 Lynn University is second at three-under. The Bobcats are 15 strokes out of the top-seven slots, as the top-seven advance to the NCAA Finals.
National No. 1 player Chandler Blanchet of UWF is the individual leader at 10-under par with rounds of 66 and 68. National No. 2 John VanDerLaan of Florida Southern College is second at eight under.
The third and final round is scheduled for tomorrow, May10. Lambert leads the Bobcats to the course at 9:20 a.m. eastern on hole No. 10.
