#24 Georgia College Golf Tees off the 2017 Spring Season at the Matlock Collegiate Classic

LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 24 Georgia College Golf team had a solid start to their spring season at the Matlock Collegiate Classic Monday. After two rounds, Bobcat Conner Albright (Macon, Georgia) has the lowest scorecard on the five-man squad. His 70 and 69 combine for the sixth-best of the 75-player field at five-under par.

Albright finished the early round one with a two-under 70, tied for eighth on the par-72, 7,065 yard Lone Palm Golf Club. He came back out on the course for an extra 18 Monday afternoon, besting his round one final by one shot. He finished with nine birdies and 23 pars, both numbers in the top-24 for the entire tournament. The Bobcat also tops the field in par-four scoring. After completing 20 par-fours in two rounds, Albright averaged a tournament-leading two-under.

Next up, Harry Lambert (Suwanee, Georgia) made his spring season debut with a solid pair of 75s. He tied his teammate with 23 pars, the fourth-best of the 75 players. He goes into the third round Tuesday, tied for 46th.

Knotted up with Lambert is fellow Bobcat Thomas Hodges (Monroe, Georgia), who recovered nicely from a first-round 79 with a one-under 71. He also had 23 pars for the two rounds.

Sitting just one stroke behind and tied for 51st, Harrison Stewart (Roswell, Georgia) recorded a 75 and 76 to start his spring season. His combined score of 151 puts him in good position to move up the leaderboard during Tuesday's final round.

Thomas Knight (Eastman, Georgia) finished off the Georgia College competitors with a 157 total. He shot a 77 and 79 in Monday's two rounds.

Georgia College enters Tuesday's third and final round 12th on the team leaderboard. The Bobcats are currently 12 over. No. 2 University of West Florida tops the field at 23 under. Just one shot back is No. 7 Nova Southeastern University with a combined 554 total. No. 1 Lynn University, No. 4 Barry University and No. 11 University of North Alabama round out the rest of the team top-five. Of the 11 teams ahead of Georgia College, all are positioned in the Golfstat Division II Top-20.

Georgia College tees off at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday for the final round of the Matlock Collegiate Classic tournament in Lakeland, Florida.
