SAVANNAH, Ga. – The No. 16 Georgia College golf team began its 17th-consecutive Regionals in a three-way tie for 12th after day one of the three-day 2014 NCAA South/Southeast Regionals at Savannah Quarters Country Club on the 7,016-yard par-72 course. The Bobcats have a 12-over-par 300 team score with No. 13 University of North Alabama and No. 20 Florida Southern College.
Sophomore David Sullivan (Woodstock, Ga.) had the best score for Georgia College. Sullivan shot a two-over par 74 with a two-over 38 on the front nine and an even-par 36 on the back nine. Sullivan had three birdies on the second, 13th and 17th holes and had the best back-nine team-score at an even 36.
Both senior Victor Monte (Chantilly, Va.) and freshman Conner Albright (Macon, Ga.) finished with a three-over par 75 score, while freshman Nicolas Falkinhoff (Buenos Aires, Argentina) rounded out the scoring with a four-over-par76 for the Bobcats. Senior Bryan Fox (Roswell, Ga.) did not figure in the team's score, but finished with a nine-over 81.
Three of the five Bobcat golfers shot a four-over 40 on the back nine and three Bobcat golfers also were even or under on the front nine.
Not only did Monte and Albright have the same overall scores at 75, but both shot a team-best one-under-par 35 on the front nine and a four-over 40 on the back nine. The only difference between the two was that Monte sank five birdies as opposed to Albright's four. Monte birdied the first, fifth, eighth, 11th and 16th holes, while Albright had birdies on holes two, five, seven and 15.
Falkinhoff joined Monte and Albright with a four-over 40 on the back nine, but was even on the first nine holes at 36 for a 76 total. The freshman had three birdies on the fifth, ninth and 10th holes. Falkinhoff, Monte and Albright all birded the fifth hole.
Fox shot a four-over 40 on the first nine and a five-over 41 on the back nine with one birdie (11th hole) and one eagle (17th hole).
No. 3 USC Aiken leads the pack after day one with an even-par 288. Seven of the 11 teams in front of the Bobcats are nationally-ranked higher than No. 16 Georgia College. Other over-par teams in front of the Bobcats include: No. 11 Nova Southeastern University (plus-two), No. 17 Florida Institute of Technology (plus-three), No. 6 Armstrong Atlantic State University (plus-five), No. 1 Barry University (plus-five), No. 9 University of West Florida (plus-seven), No. 6 Lynn University (plus-eight), Clayton State University (plus-nine), Erskine College (plus-10), Rollins College (plus-10) and No. 14 Flagler College (plus-11), respectively.
The Bobcats are set to tee off at 12:50 p.m. Tuesday for day two.
