#8 Bobcat Golf Starts Season Monday

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The No. 8 Georgia College golf squad kicks off the 2012-13 season Monday, Sept. 10 at the Raines Development Group Intercollegiate, hosted by Francis Marion University.

The two-day event features three total rounds, two coming Monday, with the final round Tuesday, all at the Country Club of South Carolina in Florence, S.C.

A largely Division I field awaits the Bobcats at this tournament, where GC finished 11th a year ago. Junior Taylor Smith (Mansfield, Ga.) was 25th last season, leading the way for the Bobcats.

Georgia College returns all five starters from last year’s lineup, a squad that took the second NCAA SuperRegional Championship in school history, eventually falling in the NCAA Quarterfinals during medal-match play.

GC returns three All-Americans in Third Team selection Patrick Garrett (Kennesaw, Ga.), and Honorable Mentions Smith and Ryan Trocchio (Norcross, Ga.). Trocchio also earned National All-Freshman Team last season as well.

Joining these three in the starting lineup this week will be junior Victor Monte (Chantilly, Va.) and junior Brian Fox (Roswell, Ga.). Monte was a starter last year for GC, competing in 10 tournaments. Fox, a Division I transfer from Georgia State University, played in two tournaments last season for GC.

The Bobcats have four tournaments on the fall slate, visiting South Carolina twice, Columbus, Ga. and Orlando, Fla.

The Georgia College Department of Athletics, two-time winners of the PBC Commissioner's Cup, sponsors 11 varsity athletic programs at the NCAA Division II level. As a Division II program, Bobcat Athletics prides itself on balancing the life of the student-athlete, evidenced by the teams' multiple appearances in post-season competition as well as documented academic success and community-service involvement.
