PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The No. 14 Georgia College golf team posted a 303 in the final round of the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Tournament Sunday. The final round 303 was combined with first and second round scores of 301 and 293 for a 33-over par finish for the Bobcats, placing sixth.
No. 3 USC Aiken took home the PBC Championship with a nine-over par 873, followed closely by No. 10 Columbus State University at 11-over par 875 on the par-72, 7,067-yard Callaway Gardens – Mountain View course.
Junior Bryan Fox (Roswell, Ga.) was the top individual player for the Bobcats, finishing in fifth place among 55 golfers with a three-over par 219. Fox remained consistent in the third round, shooting a 73 to match his first pair.
Classmate Victor Monte (Chantilly, Va.) finished in 22nd after posting a final round 75. The three-over par third round combined with 77 and 73 from Saturday for a nine-over 225 total.
All-PBC Team member Taylor Smith (Mansfield, Ga.) was just one shot behind Monte in 25th, firing 75-75-76 for a 10-over effort. The Bobcats' other selection to the All-PBC team Patrick Garrett (Kennesaw, Ga.) shot a final round 79, paired with 82 and 72 from the first two rounds, to place 40th.
Sophomore Ryan Trocchio (Norcoss, Ga.), finished 44th. Trocchio carded an 82 on Sunday to go along with 76 and 78 from the previous day, finishing at 20-over with a 236.
The individual champion was Matt Atkins of USC Aiken, posting the only score under par. Atkins shot 78-65-69 to finish at four-under par 212, four shots ahead of second place Bryan Lichimo of Columbus State.
Georgia College will now hope to receive an at-large selection to the 2013 NCAA South/Southeast SuperRegional, set to begin May 6 in Howey in the Hills, Fla.
