MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The No. 14 Georgia College golf squad looks to improve on last year's success at the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Tournament, as they prepare to head to Pine Mountain, Ga. April 20-21.
This year the PBC Tournament is going to be a tough one for the Bobcats, with four PBC teams ranked in the top-25 in the Nike Golf Coaches' poll. USC Aiken leads Peach Belt teams at No. 3, followed by Columbus State University at No. 10, Armstrong Atlantic University No. 13, Georgia College No. 15, and Georgia Southwestern State University No. 22.
The rest of the field for the PBC Tournament consists of: defending co-champion UNC Pembroke, Flagler University, Clayton State University, the University of North Georgia, Montevallo University and Lander University.
The Bobcats will send five players to the tournament: seniors Taylor Smith (Mansfield, Ga.), and Patrick Garrett (Kennesaw, Ga.), Victor Monte (Chantilly, Va.), and Bryan Fox (Roswell, Ga.) and sophomore Ryan Trocchio (Norcross, Ga.).
Smith, Garrett and Trocchio each earned All-American recognition last year for the Bobcats; with four of this starting five also owning experience in the PBC Tournament.
The GC golf team placed third at the 2012 PBC Tournament, which ended in a tie for the top spot by UNC Pembroke and USC Aiken. The Bobcats were led by Trocchio, who ended the tournament with a three round total of 219 (+3) in ninth place. Garrett also posted a top-20 finish in 11th place.
Smith owns the team's best stroke average at 73.3 this season in his eight starts, tied for second in the PBC. Garrett is just a few ticks behind at 74.4 and a top-five finish at second in the McDonough Cup. Fox is at 74.6, while Trocchio averages 75.0 and Monte 76.3.
