GC’s Yonz Named to Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars Team
NORMAN, Okla. – On the heels of ranking in multiple academic honors this season, Georgia College golfer Matthew Yonz (Waycross, Ga.) has pulled in one more, being named to the Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars Team for Division II.
The senior finished with 3.96 GPA and a double-major in chemistry and general business at Georgia College, the top GPA of any male Bobcat student-athlete.
Yonz posted a 74.8 stroke average over nine events this season. He was one of three Peach Belt Conference (PBC) golfers to earn this award.
A total of 49 players in Division II earned the honor. To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent of his team’s competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke-average under 78.0 in Division II and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
The 2010-11 season was another outstanding one for Bobcat Golf. GC put four individuals on the All- PBC Teams, with head coach Jimmy Wilson taking Coach of the Year and Billy Shida (2007-11) adding Player of the Year honors. The Bobcats had two All-Americans in Joe Young (2007-11) and Shida and Yonz added Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-American accolades.
