#8 Bobcat Golf Battles at NCAA Finals this Week
SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. – The road to the 2012 Division II Golf National Championship continues this week for No. 8 Georgia College golf, as the Bobcats battle a 20-team field for five rounds at The Cardinal Club Golf Course.
The championships will be held May 15-19, as part of the 2012 Division II National Championships Festival being hosted by Bellarmine College and the Louisville Sports Commission.
The Bobcats are fresh off a tournament win at the NCAA South/Southeast SuperRegional last week, the second region title in school history.
Junior Taylor Smith (Mansfield, Ga.) led the Bobcats to last week’s win, as the All-Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Second Team selection finished one stroke off the lead at two-under par. He now owns a 73.3 stroke average.
Classmate Patrick Garrett (Kennesaw, Ga.), a two-time All-PBC pick, leads the team with a 72.7 stroke average this season. Garrett took seventh at one-under last week.
PBC Freshman of the Year and second team selection Ryan Trocchio (Norcross, Ga.) continues to impress, leading the Bobcats at three of the last four tournaments, and posting a team-best five top-10 finishes on the year with a 73.9 stroke average.
Sophomore Victor Monte (Chantilly, Va.) was the team leader at the First Federal Southern Collegiate in mid-March and owns a 74.6 stroke average over nine starts.
The lineup features another freshman, David Sullivan (Woodstock, Ga.). Sullivan has made nine starts with a 75.2 stroke average.
This will mark GC's ninth appearance in the NCAA Finals, and the first since 2009. The school’s best finish of fourth came in 2008, the only other time a GC golf squad has won the region title.
