#22 Georgia College Golf to Host Bobcat Intercollegiate this Week
EATONTON, Ga. – The No. 22 Georgia College golf squad and head coach Jimmy Wilson are set to host the Bobcat Intercollegiate at Cuscowilla on Lake Oconee March 19-20 featuring some of the nation’s top teams.
The tournament this year will feature seventeen teams, twelve of which are among the nation’s top-25 according to Golfstat Division II Head-to-Head rankings. Of those teams, six are in the top-10.
At the top of the pack is No. 1 Barry University followed by No. 2 Lynn University. Next up is No. 4 Nova Southeastern University with The University of North Alabama right behind at No. 5. Rounding up the top ten are No. 6 University of West Florida and No. 9 UNC Pembroke.
Also in the top-25 are Peach Belt Conference (PBC) opponents No. 14 Georgia Southwestern State University and No. 17 USC Aiken. Behind them is No. 18 Florida Southern College, No. 19 Carson-Newman College, No. 20 Armstrong and No. 25 Georgia College.
Also featured in the tournament are southeast powerhouses Clayton State University, Columbus State University, Lander University, Rollins College and Valdosta State University.
GC took fourth at this tournament a year ago. Last year’s winner was Lynn, taking the title for the second-straight season. The Fighting Knights edged both Barry and West Florida by a single stroke in one of the tightest finishes in tournament history. The individual champion was UWF’s Otto Bonning, who beat the field by four strokes. The top golfer returning to this year’s tournament is Columbus State’s Rourke Van der Spuy, who took second at one-over par in 2011.
