#21 Bobcat Golf Leads NCAA SuperRegional after Round Two

CONOVER, N.C. – With just a single exciting round to go, the No. 21 Georgia College golf team sits atop the leaderboard after Tuesday's 289 in the NCAA South/Southeast SuperRegional at the Rock Barn Golf & Spa Jones Course. The top five teams advance to the NCAA Finals in Louisville, Ky.

Junior Patrick Garrett (Kennesaw, Ga.) shot a two-under 70 today to draw even with teammate Taylor Smith (Mansfield, Ga.) in fourth at three-under par. Garret shot a 71 yesterday while Smith carded rounds of 69 and 72 on the par-72, 7,064-yard course.

Garrett recorded an ace in today's round, knocking it in from 170 yards on the ninth hole. It was one of four holes under par for Garrett today. Smith balanced out two double bogeys with four birdies on the day. He finished strong, as he was three-under on the last five holes.

The Bobcats are four-over par, one stroke ahead of No. 27 Florida Tech. There's a three-way tie for third, as No. 2 Barry University, No. 4 UNC Pembroke and No. 14 USC Aiken are all at plus-eight, rounding out those all-important top five spots.

Sophomore Victor Monte (Chantilly, Va.) cut seven strokes off yesterday's 80 for his first counting round of the tourney, posting a birdie each on the front and back nines. He 73rd after two rounds with a 153.

Freshman David Sullivan (Woodstock, Ga.) posted a 74 today, going with yesterday's 77. Sullivan stands at 60th with a 151, but showed promise today, carding five birdies.

Freshman Ryan Trocchio (Norcross, Ga.) followed yesterday's 74 with a 75, good for 39th in the 108-man field. Trocchio had an up and down round with three birdies, two coming on the front nine.

The Bobcats lead one of the toughest tournaments they will play all year, featuring six teams in the top-10. GC last won the NCAA Regional in 2008.

Final round action begins at 12:50 p.m. tomorrow for the Bobcats, teeing off with golfers from Barry and Florida Tech. Sullivan will get things started on hole No. 1 for GC.
