#21 Bobcat Golf Fourth at NCAA SuperRegional Round One

CONOVER, N.C. – The No. 21 Georgia College golf team is tied for fourth after Monday's opening-round 291 in the NCAA South/Southeast SuperRegional at the Rock Barn Golf & Spa Jones Course. The top five teams advance to the NCAA Finals in Louisville, Ky.

Junior Taylor Smith (Mansfield, Ga.) is one stroke off the lead at three-under par, carding a 69. He trails only Georgia Southwestern State University's J.P. Griffin.

Smith was consistent on the day's effort, carding just one hole above par on the par-72, 7,064-yard course.

The Bobcats are three-over par, tied with No. 22 Rollins College for fourth. No. 25 Barton College is third at plus-two, while No. 5 Lynn University is second at even par. The tournament leader is No. 27 Florida Tech at two-under.

Second on the team and 10th overall is the lone Bobcat with experience at this tournament, as junior Patrick Garrett (Kennesaw, Ga.) posted a one-under 71. Garrett birdied half of the round's four par-five holes.

Rookie Ryan Trocchio (Norcross, Ga.) posted a 74, good for 41st in the 108-man field. Trocchio birdied the par-four 16th, and was at even on the back nine.

Freshman David Sullivan (Woodstock, Ga.) scored a 77 in 71st. Sullivan finished strong at one-under on the front nine after the team started the round on the 10th hole.

Sophomore Victor Monte (Chantilly, Va.) posted an 80, carding pars on the entire back nine, save one hole.

Of the teams behind GC, seven are ranked above the Bobcats in the most recent GolfStat Head-to-Head Division II Rankings, highlighted by No. 1 Nova Southeastern University, No. 2 Barry University and No. 4 UNC Pembroke.

Round two of three begins at noon tomorrow for the Bobcats, teeing off with golfers from Barry and Lynn. Sullivan will get things started at noon on hole No. 1.
