#22 GC Golf Takes Ninth at Southeastern Collegiate

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The No. 22 Georgia College golf squad shot a final-round nine-over 297, taking ninth place at the 2012 First Federal Southeastern Collegiate, hosted by Valdosta State University.

The Bobcats finished at plus-20 on the par-72, 7,140-yard Kinderlou Forest Golf Club course, just one stroke ahead of Florida Tech.

Freshman Ryan Trocchio (Norcross, Ga.) carded the best final round for GC with a one-over 73. The rookie was over par on just three holes in today's action. Combined with a 78 and 77 yesterday, Trocchio finished 57th.

Sophomore Victor Monte (Chantilly, Va.) led the way for the Bobcats, finishing in the top-20 in 16th, posting a 69 and 73 before today's 75 for one over par. He was at par or better for 15 holes today.

Junior Patrick Garrett (Kennesaw, Ga.) put up a 75 today with yesterday's 76 and 68. The No. 38 player in the country finished 20th at plus-three. His back nine today featured three birdies. Garrett still owns the team's best stroke average at 72.8.

Classmate Taylor Smith (Mansfield, Ga.) was 32nd overall at six over par. No. 67 in the nation, Smith carded a 74 today with a 72 and 76 prior.

Freshman David Sullivan (Woodstock, Ga.) was 66th. Sullivan posted rounds of 80, 75 and 76.

The University of North Alabama's Tyler Chandler led his team to the championship with a 13-under par 203, five strokes better than the field. Riding Chandler's success, the No. 13 Lions dominated at 23-under par. No. 3 Barry University was an amazing 14 strokes behind, as UNA went 14-under on the day.

The Bobcats ranked third among the five Peach Belt Conference (PBC) schools in the 14-team tournament, and ahead of one nationally-ranked team in No. 5 Georgia Southwestern State University. The tournament featured eight nationally-ranked teams, including No. 1 Lynn University, No. 3 Barry, No. 5 GSW, No. 9 University of West Florida, No. 13 UNA, No. 17 Florida Southern College and No. 25 Armstrong.

The Bobcats host the Bobcat Intercollegiate Monday and Tuesday, March 19-20 at the Golf Club at Cuscowilla.
