NORMAN, Okla. – The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) recently released its All-Academic Teams for the 2009-2010 golf season, with Georgia College & State University making the list. Teams that recorded a team GPA of 3.0 or higher earned All-Academic status.

The Bobcat golf team was the sole Peach Belt Conference (PBC) member recognized with this prestigious award and one of only 13 Division II schools while accumulating a team GPA of 3.28.

“I am elated with the success our team has had in the classroom,” said head coach Jimmy Wilson. “It says a lot when this is the second year in a row we have been recognized and the GCAA All-Academic Team is only in its second year of existence. The score on the golf card is not nearly as important as the score in the classroom.”

The 2010 PBC Champions, Georgia College golf is one of the more decorated programs in school history, having another outstanding season in 2009-10. The team picked up the conference title, second in school history, among three tournament wins, added four all-conference golfers and the PBC Golfer of the Year, as well as four PING All-Region selections.

The Georgia College Department of Athletics, back-to-back winners of the PBC Commissioner's Cup, sponsors 10 varsity athletic programs at the NCAA Division II level. As a Division II program, Bobcat Athletics prides itself on balancing the life of the student-athlete, evidenced by the teams’ multiple appearances in post-season competition as well as documented academic success and community-service involvement.
