#6 Bobcats, Garrett Take Third at Kiawah Island
KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – Led by sophomore Pat Garrett (Kennesaw, Ga.) at one-under par, the No. 6 Georgia College & State University golf team took third at the Kiawah Island Invitational Tuesday. The Bobcats were consistent, firing 293 and 292 team scores for a nine-over finish.
Garrett blazed the course with a 70 today, the second-best round of the entire field on the par-72, 6,875-yard Cougar Point Golf Course. Paired with yesterday’s 73, he was one-under, just two strokes out of the playoff for first place.
Senior Billy Shida (Berkeley Lakes, Ga.) finished sixth at even par, cutting two strokes off yesterday’s 73 for a 144 finish. Classmate Matthew Yonz (Waycross, Ga.) followed up yesterday’s 74 with a 75 for five-over in 26th.
The Bobcats finished three strokes behind champion Barton College, which posted a six-over 582. In second place at eight over was USC Beaufort.
Luiz Jacintho of Pfeffer University joined Barton’s Daniel Claytor in a playoff after finishing the 36 holes at three-under, with Claytor taking the title on the fourth playoff hole.
The Bobcats are back in action Sept. 13-14 at the SpringHill Suites Intercollegiate, hosted by Francis Marion University.
