NORMAN, Okla. – Seniors Billy Shida (Berkeley Lakes, Ga.) and Joe Young (Cochran, Ga.) of the Georgia College golf team, have earned slots on the Division II PING All-Region Teams, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced Wednesday.
The Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Player of the Year, Shida finished the season with a 72.4 stroke average, good for second in the conference. Shida had four top-five finishes among his seven top-10 slots, including a victory at the Matlock Collegiate Classic. He competed in 11 events and had 15 sub-par rounds. This is the second All-Region honor in his career.
A two-time All-American, Young finished the season with a 72.0 stroke average, good for tops in the conference. Young had four top-five finishes among his six top-10 slots, including a victory at the Lander Bearcat Classic. He competed in 10 events and had 13 sub-par rounds. This is the fourth All-Region honor in his career.
The 2010-11 season was another outstanding one for Bobcat Golf. GC put four individuals on the All- PBC Teams, with head coach Jimmy Wilson taking Coach of the Year and Shida adding Player of the Year honors. The Bobcats had two All-Region honorees and senior Matthew Yonz (2006-11) was named Academic All-American.
