INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 6 Georgia College golf squad and head coach Jimmy Wilson earned the top at-large bid to the NCAA Southeast Regional, the organization announced late Friday.
The Southeast Region joins the South Region for a SuperRegional round May 2-4 at Victoria Hills Golf Club in DeLand, Fla. The event will be hosted by the Sunshine State Conference and the Central Florida Sports Commission.
GC is the top seed among the 10 chosen from
the Southeast, including five other Peach Belt Conference (PBC)
schools. Barton College is ranked No. 2, followed by Armstrong
Atlantic, then Columbus State University. South Atlantic Conference
Champion Newberry College is fifth, with UNC Pembroke No. 6. PBC
champ Flagler College comes next, with Conference Carolinas
Champion Queens University (N.C.) in eighth. USC Aiken and Belmont
Abbey College round out the last two.
The Bobcats will need to finish in the top five of the 20 teams at the SuperRegional in order to advance to the NCAA Finals. The ‘Cats most recently made that trip in 2009 and have made eight trips to the finals in school history. GC last won the SuperRegional in 2008.
Adding in the teams in the South Region, the SuperRegional will feature five teams from the GolfStat Head-to-Head Rankings top-10, including No. 3 Lynn University and No. 5 University of West Florida, the Gulf South Conference Champions. The tournament depth doesn’t stop there, as 11 of the top-20 come from this star-studded region as well.
The Bobcats will play their practice round Sunday, May 1, and look to take a SuperRegional title beginning May 2. Live scoring will be available at www.GolfStat.com .
