MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College golf team and head coach Jimmy Wilson won the First Federal Southeastern Collegiate this week, and jumped one spot to No. 8 in the Golf World/Nike Golf Division II Poll. The Bobcats are also sixth in the GolfStat Head-to-Head Rankings.

The Golf World/Nike Golf poll is voted on by a select committee of the nation’s Division II coaches. GC is No. 8, with Chico State University taking the top slot. The Bobcats are tops among the four Peach Belt Conference (PBC) teams listed, ahead of No. 12 Columbus State University. USC Aiken is No. 17, while Armstrong Atlantic is ranked No. 22. Among the teams ahead of GC, the Bobcats beat three in this week’s tournament.

The GolfStat Rankings use a head-to-head formula to calculate the nation’s best teams, with GC in sixth. Western Washington University leads this list, followed by Chico State. Abilene Christian University is third, with the University of West Florida fourth and Lynn University fifth.

The Bobcats have 289.6 stroke average over their eight events this season, good for three-over par. Senior Joe Young (Cochran, Ga.) leads the team with a 71.6 average, followed closely by senior Billy Shida (Berkeley Lakes, Ga.) at 72.0 and sophomore Patrick Garrett (Kennesaw, Ga.) at 72.9. Shida and Garrett have each won tournaments this year, as Garrett picked up the individual title at the Southeastern Collegiate this week.

The Bobcats are back in action March 21-22, hosting the Bobcat Invitational at the Golf Club at Cuscowilla.
