#6 Bobcat Golf Up to Ninth at NCAA SuperRegional Day Two

DELAND, Fla. – With more round left to go, the No. 6 Georgia College golf team moved up to ninth Tuesday at the NCAA Southeast/South SuperRegional. GC is five strokes from the crucial top five, as those slots move on to the NCAA Finals.

The Bobcats shot a 294, shaving three strokes off yesterday's output, and are now at plus-15 on the par-72, 7,072-yard Victoria Hills Golf Club Course.

Senior Billy Shida (Berkeley Lakes, Ga.) leapt from 44th to 17th following yesterday's 75 with a 71 for two-over par to lead the Bobcats. He posted just one hole over par after the third hole. Classmate Joe Young (Cochran, Ga.) has posted a mirror image of Shida's scores, as the two-time All-American failed to record a hole under par on day two.

Freshman Gavin Harper (Twin City, Ga.) responded well to opening-round jitters, cutting three strokes off yesterday's 75 and standing 24th overall at plus-three. After a triple bogey on the par-four fourth, Harper settled right in, going three under the rest of the way.

Senior Matthew Yonz (Waycross, Ga.) improved from 75th to 66th, carding a 77 and 76. Sophomore Patrick Garrett (Kennesaw, Ga.) has posted a 76 and 79, falling to 82nd place.

No. 5 Barry University put up the best round of the day at 285 to take over the team lead at three-over par. The Bucs lead No. 3 Lynn University by two strokes. Ricardo Gouveia of Lynn kept the top slot, shooting a 67 and 74 for three-under par. He leads a trio of competitors by just one stroke in a tight leaderboard.

The third and final round begins tomorrow, May 4. Garrett starts things off from hole 10 for the Bobcats at 12:50 p.m., teamed with golfers from No. 15 Columbus State University and Florida Tech.
