SAVANNAH, Ga. – Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Player of the Year Billy Shida (Berkeley Lakes, Ga.) is low-man after two rounds, pacing the No. 6 Georgia College golf team to second place Monday at the PBC Championships. GC is one stroke back with one round to go on the par-72, 7,016-yard Savannah Quarters Country Club Course.
GC shot 282 and 303 over the two rounds, ending up nine-over par and tied with No. 12 Armstrong Atlantic. The pair trails No. 25 Flagler College.
Shida was masterful in round one, putting up a 66, including five-under on the back-nine alone. He came back to the pack with a 73 in round two, and still leads the field by three at five-under par.
Freshman All-PBC Second Team selection Gavin Harper (Twin City, Ga.) was not intimidated by his first postseason action, putting up rounds of 69 and 74, and is positioned third at one-under. All-PBC First Teamer Joe Young (Cochran, Ga.) is 15th at five over, pairing a 71 with a round-two 78.
Senior Matthew Yonz (Waycross, Ga.) is 30th, putting in rounds of 77 and 78 for plus-11. All-PBC First Team honoree Patrick Garrett (Kennesaw, Ga.) had a counting round one at 76, but fell off pace with an 80 in round two, and owns the 32nd slot at plus-12.
Shida will battle in round three to hold onto the individual championship, a feat no Bobcat has done since GC Hall of Famer David Robinson in 2003.
Round three begins for GC tomorrow, April 12 at 9:40 a.m. as Garrett tees off with golfers from AASU and Flagler.
