#4 Bobcat Golf Jumps Three Spots to Take Sixth at DI Mizuno Collegiate
POOLER, Ga. – Led by senior All-American Joe Young (Cochran, Ga.) the No. 4 Georgia College golf team put up a final round 284 to finish sixth Tuesday at the Division I Mizuno Savannah Intercollegiate, hosted by Georgia Southern University. The Bobcats finished at five-over at the par-72, 7,016-yard Savannah Quarters Country Club course.
Young finished just one stroke out of the playoff for first place, carding a nine-under 207 for the three rounds. He posted rounds of 67, 70 and 70.
Sophomore Patrick Garrett (Kennesaw, Ga.) was 31st overall and second on the squad, finishing four-over par thanks to a two-under round today. He got steadily better, carding rounds of 78, 72 and 70. Rookie Gavin Harper (Twin City, Ga.) continues to perform, finishing 36th at five-over. He echoed Garrett's 70 today, combined with an 81 and 70 in the first two rounds for 221.
2010 All-PBC performer Billy Shida (Berkeley Lakes, Ga.) was 44th, carding rounds of 79-71-74 for an eight-over 224. Rounding out the scoring for the Bobcats was sophomore Bernardo Bide (Olavarria, Argentina) in 79th (78-82-80=240).
Florida Gulf Coast University ran away with the title, beating Wofford College by 17 strokes at 20-under par. The Bobcats leapfrogged Davidson College, Elon University and Arkansas State University in today's action to take sixth. The only other Division II team, Armstrong Atlantic, took 11th.
It took five holes, but Davidson's Richard Fountain finally ousted GSU's Logan Blondell for the individual title. The pair entered the playoff after finishing the tournament at 10-under.
The Mizuno tournament completes the fall season for Bobcat golf.
