#6 Bobcat Golf with Nine-Stroke Grip on Lead at SpringHill Intercollegiate

FLORENCE, S.C. – With a whopping four golfers under par after two rounds, the No. 6 Georgia College & State University golf team owns a nine stroke lead over a primarily Division I field at the SpringHill Suites Intercollegiate, hosted by Francis Marion University. The Bobcats shot a 280, then a 282 to be 14-under par at a 562 score.

Senior Billy Shida (Berkeley Lakes, Ga.) and sophomore Pat Garrett (Kennesaw, Ga.) share the Bobcat lead at six under par, but got there in vastly different ways at the par-72, 7,062-yard Country Club of South Carolina course.

Shida cut two strokes off his first-round 70, posting a 68 in round two, tying for the second-best round two score. Garrett put up a paltry 67 in round one, the second-best of that frame, followed by a second round 71. Both golfers are tied for second.

Sophomore Bernardo Bide (Olavarria, Argentina) stands at one-under after two rounds, tied with teammate Gavin Harper (Twin City, Ga.). Bide followed up a first round 72 with a 71, while the freshman inverted the scores to tie Bide for 11th. Freshman Victor Monte (Chantilly, Va.) has posted a 159 (80-79), tying for 76th.

The Bobcats are holding off UT-Chattanooga by nine strokes, and third place Jacksonville State University by and even 10. The only other Division II program in the tournament, fellow Peach Belt Conference (PBC) competitor USC Aiken, is seventh.

Chattanooga's Chris Robb leads the individual listings, posting a 66 and 69 for nine-under. Shida and Garrett are tied with three others for second.

The third and final round of the tournament is tomorrow, Sept. 14.
