PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Continuing momentum from the recent Tar Heel Tour money-winners title, former Georgia College & State University golfer David Robinson buzzed his way through the first stage of PGA Qualifying School, finishing sixth at the Florence Country Club in Florence, S.C. Oct. 21-24.
Robinson shot 272 in the four days which was eight-under par at the tournament in Florence.
A member of the inaugural class of the Georgia College Athletic Hall of Fame, Robinson now moves on to stage two where he hopes to play at Callaway Gardens-Mountain View in Pine Mountain, Ga. Nov. 12-15.
Roughly 78 golfers will make it through each of the six sites of stage two, giving the PGA around 450 golfers in the third stage. Golfers that make it to that third stage are guaranteed some sort of status, either on the PGA Tour or Nationwide Tour. The third and final stage is held Dec. 3-8 at PGA West in La Quinta, Calif.
Robinson dazzled the links as a Bobcat, the only Georgia College golfer to earn three All-America trophies.
