MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The Georgia College & State University men's golf team dipped slightly in the third Golf World/Nike Golf Division II Coaches' Poll released today (Oct. 15). The Bobcats came in the No. 6 spot down from their previous rank of fourth.
The top teams shuffled positions in the poll. The former No. 1, the University of West Florida, fell to eighth place. The defending NCAA champs were supplanted by Peach Belt Conference (PBC) rival USC Aiken fresh off its second win this fall.
Three squads previously out of the top-10 moved ahead of the Bobcats including Columbus State University at No. 5. Rounding out the PBC schools were No. 11 Lander University and No. 21 Clayton State University.
Georgia College had its lowest finish of the season at the closing fall event the Aflac/Couger Invitational. The sixth-place finish was the first time the Bobcats placed outside of the top-three since the Bobcat Invitational last spring.
While the rest of the guys begin the off season, junior Pedro C. Lima (Sao Paulo, Brazil) is currently in Adelaide, Australia for the World Amateur Team Championship. Lima and two other golfers will represent Brazil in the team competition Oct. 16-19.
