#6 Golf Two Strokes off Lead at Kiawah

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - The No. 6 Georgia College & State University golf team opened its fall season with one round at the Kiawah Island Invitational today (Sept. 8). The Bobcats stand third at nine-under at the par-72 Cougar Point Golf Club.

The Bobcats are at 279, one stroke behind Coker College and a pair behind host No. 4 USC Aiken. Sophomore Joe Young (Cochran, Ga.) leads the way for Georgia College in third place overall at a six-under 66, just two behind Coker's Chris Marsh and USCA's J.P. Solis.

Tied for seventh is junior Niclas Johansson (Skanor, Sweden) at two-under 70, while classmate Pedro C. Lima (Sao Paulo, Brazil) is one stroke behind in 11th, competing in his first tournament for the Bobcats.

Junior Francisco Bide (Buenos Aires, Argentina/El Diamante (Calif.)) is at even par, tied for 14th. Rounding out the Bobcat five is sophomore Billy Shida (Berkeley Lake, Ga.) standing 40th at four-over.

"Joe had six birdies and no bogies and Johansson started off strong, dipped a little in the middle and finished playing well," said Georgia College head coach Jimmy Wilson. "Pedro and Fran were steady and if not for a couple of tough holes early, Billy would've been right there too. Tomorrow should be fun."

The Bobcats finish the tournament with the final two rounds tomorrow, Sept. 9.
