Bobcat Golf Releases Spring Slate

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - Coming off the most successful season in program history in 2007-08, the Georgia College & State University men's golf team and head coach Jimmy Wilson announced its spring season schedule today, with one open date still to be filled.

The spring begins with a trip to Lakeland, Fla. Feb. 5-7 for the annual Matlock Collegiate. The Bobcats took third in this tournament a year ago, beginning a stretch of four consecutive tournaments finishing in the top three for GCSU.

Next comes the Pirate Invitational Feb. 22-24, hosted by conference rival Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, Ga. The Bobcats were runners up at this event in 2008 after winning the team title in 2007.

Georgia College will get its chance to defend the Rendleman Invitational title March 1-3 in Salisbury, N.C. at the 2008 tournament, Joe Young (Cochran, Ga.) led the Bobcats to the team title by taking fifth overall.

Next comes the Southeastern Collegiate, hosted by Valdosta State University. The Bobcats finished second to Florida Southern College by just one stroke in 2008, as Niclas Johannson (Skanor, Sweden) lost the individual medal in a playoff.

GCSU will again host the Bobcat Invitational, played at the impressive Golf Club at Cuscowilla in Eatonton, Ga. The Bobcats will defend the home turf March 22-24.

In 2008, the Bobcats took fourth as a team at the NCAA Championship, the best finals finish in Georgia College history. The Bobcats had an outstanding season, taking the first NCAA Southeast Region Championship in program history among a pair of tournament wins. Wilson was named both the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) and Southeast Region Coach of the Year, and the Bobcats landed three players on the All-America team, senior Juan Bialet (Buenos Aires, Argentina), sophomore Johansson and freshman Young.
