NEW YORK - The Georgia College & State University golf squad stayed at No. 6 in the most recent Golf World/NIKE Golf Division II National Poll, but did pick up a No. 1 vote for the first time in the spring season.
The Bobcats are listed at No. 6, with Peach Belt Conference (PBC) foe USC Aiken taking the top spot. Fellow PBC school Columbus State University is No. 2, followed by Florida Southern College, the University of Central Oklahoma and Sonoma State University. The Bobcats are one of three squads to pick up a No. 1 vote.
The poll released Feb. 18, before the Bobcats' most recent fifth-place finish at the Pirate Invitational in Savannah, Ga. Georgia College is led by junior two-time All-American Niclas Johansson (Skanor, Sweden) at a 71.7 stroke average and six top-20 finishes in as many starts during the 2008-09 season.
The Bobcats return to action Monday, March 2 at the Rendleman Invitational, hosted by Catawba College.
