ORLANDO, Fla. -For the first time in club history, the Georgia College & State University Dance Team made it to finals at the UDA Nationals Dance Team Competition. The competition was held at Walt Disney World from Jan. 16-19.
The Sassy Cats competed against 24 other dance teams in the Open Hip Hop Division. The team performed in the semi-final round and was chosen to the top-16 teams moving on to the finals. After dancing a second time and the judge's scores were in, the team found out that they had placed 14th in the nation.
"We were extremely excited for placing so high," said captain Ashley Cerame. "We all have put a lot of hard work, time, and energy into the dance and we were glad to see that our efforts paid off."
The team members would like to thank their advisor Doris Henderson, choreographer CiCi Kelley, all their sponsors, family and friends who supported and helped them throughout the year.
The performance can be viewed on the Internet at www.varsity.com and will be aired on ESPN2 Feb. 22 at 1 p.m. and March 19 at 3 p.m.
