MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Baseball team wrapped up another banner year in 2018, and all three national ranking organizations have the Bobcats listed in the nation's top-10 for their final rankings.
The top slot the Bobcats own is through the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) where GC Baseball is positioned fifth. This organization doesn't do a postseason ranking, so the version came out May 16. The Bobcats are tops among the two Peach Belt Conference (PBC) schools listed, ahead of No. 11 Columbus State University. North Greenville University owns the top slot.
In the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll, the Bobcats are tied for sixth. Three PBC schools dot the list, with CSU at No. 2 and UNC Pembroke in No. 26. National Champion Augustana University is No. 1.
In the Perfect Game Top-25, the Bobcats own the No. 8 slot. The Bobcats are second among four PBC schools on this list, behind only No. 2 CSU. UNCP is 14th, with USC Aiken in the No. 24 slot. Augustana is atop this ranking as well.
The season has come to a close for the Bobcats, a year in which they went 44-12 with the most PBC victories by any team since 1998, and the first back-to-back PBC Tournament titles since 1998 as well. Leading all of Division II in batting average and fielding percentage, the Bobcats put eight on the All-PBC Teams and six on the All-Region squads, adding All-America honors for Logan Mattix, Nate Schmal and Charlie Hecht.
The Georgia College Department of Athletics, two-time winners of the PBC Commissioner's Cup and the 2017 PBC Sportsmanship Institution of the Year, sponsors 11 varsity athletic programs at the NCAA Division II level. As a Division II program, Bobcat Athletics prides itself on balancing the life of the student-athlete, evidenced by the teams' multiple appearances in post-season competition as well as documented academic success and community-service involvement.
