MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Senior righty Charlie Hecht (Johns Creek) threw eight shutout innings with 11 strikeouts as the No. 27 Georgia College Baseball team (12-6, 9-1 PBC) controlled Francis Marion University (8-13, 3-7 PBC) 11-0 Friday night at John Kurtz Field.
Hecht stranded nine runners over his eight frames, getting the big pitch every time it was needed. Six of his 11 strikeouts were looking as he scattered four hits and four walks. The senior has allowed just four runs over his six starts this season, including a single run across in his last 27 innings.
The scoring started early for Georgia College, getting three in the first and two more in the second. Centerfielder Logan Mattix (Loganville) provided a big two-run blast to left in the first, and Cal Gentry (Perry) an RBI single in the second.
