MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College baseball team (11-12) ran its win streak to four in a row in beating Albany State University (6-21) 19-6 Wednesday at John Kurtz Field.
The Bobcats posted six runs in the first and never looked back. Seven of the nine spots in the Bobcat order had hits, and eight of the nine scored runs.
Junior Dylan Cook (Portola Valley, California) went 4-for-5 with six RBI and two runs, while centerfielder Jake Sandlin (Evans) pounded out three hits in six trips for five RBI and three runs, coming a single short of the cycle.
Shortstop Brandon Benson (Loganville) had a 3-for-4 effort, scoring three runs and driving in another. Freshman John Davis (Marietta) had just one hit, but it was a three-run home run in the eighth, the first of his career. Sandlin also had a three-run home run in the eighth, the sixth round-tripper of his season.
Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Freshman of the Week Brandon Purcell (Glennville) added two hits, including a double, scoring a run as well.
Righty starter Brady Walsh (Marietta) threw five innings to get his first career win (1-0), allowing three runs on seven hits and fanning a pair.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, March 20 at 6 p.m., hosting the University of Montevallo.
