AUSTIN, Texas. – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released its weekly poll on Tuesday, and the Georgia College baseball team pulled in the No. 5 ranking in the Southeast Region.
The Bobcats moved up one spot from their preseason ranking of sixth in the region poll, also receiving one first place vote in the region. Georgia College is one of six Peach Belt Conference (PBC) teams ranked in the top-10 in the region poll. USC Aiken, Lander University and UNC Pembroke sit one, two, and three respectively, while Francis Marion University and the University of Montevallo come in at sixth and tied for seventh.
In the National Top 25, the Bobcats received the second most votes for a team outside of the top-25. There are three PBC schools in the top-25 with USC Aiken at No. 5, Lander at No. 13 and UNC Pembroke at No. 15. Two other Bobcat opponents this season made the top-25 as the University of Tampa remains No. 1 and Valdosta State University ranks No. 7. Georgia College took one of three games from Tampa last weekend and will play Valdosta State on April 16 at John Kurtz Field.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, Feb. 21 at 4 p.m. as they host Flagler College in GC Baseball’s first PBC contest of the season.
