GC Baseball Falls in PBC Semifinal to Top-Seed Lander, 10-9

AIKEN, S.C. – The No. 4-seed Georgia College baseball team (34-15) gave Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Regular-Season Champion and No. 1-seed Lander University (46-6) all they could handle in a 10-9 PBC Tournament Semifinal loss Sunday at USC Aiken.

The Bearcats scored the first four runs of the game and had a 7-2 lead after the top of the sixth. A five-run seventh made it 8-8, but the potent Lander offense picked up the necessary runs in the eighth to edge Georgia College 10-9.

Centerfielder Rob Hogenkamp (St. Louis) was 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs, ripping a two-run double to right center in the seventh. Leftfielder Ryan Sabalaskey (Carol Stream, Ill.) also had a two-run double in the inning.

Designated hitter Taylor Hinshaw (Winder, Ga.) had a two-run home run in the fourth, cutting the Lander lead in half at the time. The round-tripper was Hinshaw's sixth of the season. All-PBC rightfielder Jake Sandlin (Evans, Ga.) drove in two on sacrifice flies, and third baseman Mike McGraw (Newnan, Ga.) scored twice with one hit.

Righty reliever Jordan Modine (Ft. Pierce, Fla.) took the loss, falling to 2-2 on the season. The win went to Lander reliever Cam Hokanson (4-1) in an inning of work. Brandon White added his 11th save on a pair of shutout innings.

Georgia College had cut the lead to one run at 10-9 in the bottom of the eighth, but couldn't bring in another tying run, leaving the bases loaded.

The Bobcats will now have to wait for tonight's NCAA Region Tournament announcement, with the NCAA Selection Show airing on NCAA.com at 10 p.m.
