MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Sophomore Jake Sandlin (Evans, Ga.) of the No. 24 Georgia College baseball team earns his spot as Bobcat Athlete of the Week for the week of April 21 – April 27. The baseball team has earned several honors for the award, with Sandlin bringing home his second, and the third overall for the squad this season.
Sandlin finished the week a total of 7-of-10 (.700) with a whopping nine RBI. He scored seven runs for the Bobcats and added a pair of home runs to top it off. His excellence didn't stop there; Sandlin had a perfect 1-1 record for stolen bases and was flawless in the field with 17 putouts overall.
Sandlin's skills prevailed in the doubleheader opener against the University of Montevallo Saturday, April 26, where he scored four of the seven runs, five RBI, two home runs and batted 3-for-3 all in one game. Sandlin assisted the Bobcats to a 3-0 record for the week.
The 2013 All-Peach Belt Conference (PBC) outfielder is second this year in triples with a total of four. The sophomore also places 11th in the league in runs scored with a total of 52 and 12th in on-base percentage at .456 for this year. Since Sandlin is only a sophomore, the Bobcats look forward to two more years with him on the team.
The Bobcats kick off the regular season's final weekend Saturday, May 3 at 3 p.m. in doubleheader action against the University of North Georgia at John Kurtz Field.
