AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Peach Belt Conference (PBC) announced its weekly baseball honors, with No. 21 Georgia College baseball (14-4, 7-2 PBC) bringing in both the Player and Pitcher of the Week awards. Junior first baseman Clay Ardeeser (Loganville, Ga.) was named the Player of the Week, while senior Justin Blue (Mulberry, Fla.) earned Pitcher of the Week.
Ardeeser was solid in all four Bobcat games last week, hitting .579 with a .737 slugging percentage as GC went 4-0. The junior first baseman hit .533 in a three-game conference sweep of Georgia Southwestern, going 5-for-6 in the opener with a pair of RBIs. He was 2-for-4 in game two with a pair of doubles and another RBI and drove in a fourth run in the final game of the series. He opened the week with a 3-for-4 effort and three RBIs against Newberry. Ardeeser drove in seven runs in total with at least one in each game, scored seven runs, stole a base and had a .980 fielding percentage at first. Ardeeser leads the PBC in hitting with a .452 average, is sixth in slugging percentage and fifth in doubles.
Blue pitched his first complete game of the season, going the distance to defeat Georgia Southwestern 7-2 to clinch the three-game set. The senior scattered five hits and a walk for just one earned run, fanning five. The righty got stronger as the game went along, not allowing a runner to reach base past the fifth inning. He set the final 14 batters down in a row. Blue cracked the PBC's top 10 in wins and is ninth in innings pitched.
Blue is the first PBC Pitcher of the Week for GC Baseball since he won the award March 26, 2013. Ardeeser was also Bobcat Nation's last PBC Player of the Week, March 5.
The Bobcats are back in action Thursday, March 13 at 3:30 p.m., traveling to North Greenville University.
