GC Baseball Holds Alumni Game, Raises Funds for Grady’s All-Stars

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College baseball program and head coach Tom Carty held its annual Alumni Game Saturday, Oct. 20, connecting old friends and raising funds for a great cause in the process.

The day featured an alumni home run derby followed by an alumni-only game. Afterward the 2012-13 Bobcats held a few innings of intersquad action to showcase the new team.

The event had a special cause Saturday, helping out the family of GC alum Chris Grady (1995-96). Grady and his wife Valerie have two young boys, Drew (8) and Trent (5) battling a debilitating illness after being diagnosed with Batten Disease.

GC baseball passed the hat for the Grady family fund, “Grady’s All-Stars”. Batten Disease depletes children of their physical abilities as well as their vision and causes heartbreaking debilitation. Life expectancy can be anywhere from 8-12 years of age. The Gradys continue to battle to get the kids in on various studies and the cost of these privately-funded efforts, combined with piling medical care bills has stretched the family thin.

Through everyone’s generous donations, the Georgia College baseball family put together over $1700 for Grady’s All-Stars. Those interested in adding to the cause can visit the fund’s web site at http://www.gradysallstars.org/ .
