MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – As news of the wash out of Saturday's Peach Belt Conference (PBC) doubleheader between Georgia College and the University of North Georgia hit the conference office, staff released the PBC Tournament Bracket, showing the No. 7-seed Bobcats taking on No. 2-seed Columbus State University Wednesday, May 8 at 10 a.m.
Georgia College finished the regular season 29-17, with a 16-12 PBC mark. The Bobcats posted win streaks of eight and seven this season, and were powered by an offense ranking third in the league in runs scored and second in both home runs and RBI.
It will be an attempt at revenge for the Bobcats, as CSU was the lone team to provide a PBC series sweep over the Bobcats this year. The Cougars enter the postseason at 27-20 overall, but own a 19-10 PBC record.
The Bobcat and Cougar matchup kicks off the 2013 PBC Tournament, a double-elimination format similar to the Division II World Series. No. 3-seed Armstrong battles No. 6-seed Francis Marion University at 1:30 p.m., followed by No. 4-seed Lander University and No. 5-seed UNC Pembroke at 5 p.m. No. 1-seed USC Aiken and No. 8-seed University of Montevallo 8:30 p.m. close out the first day's action.
The tournament will be played in Greenwood, S.C., hosted by Lander at its brand-new Dolny Stadium at the Jeff May Complex. This is the first time the full PBC Tournament has been played at Lander.
The Bobcats will be looking for a better finish in this year's tourney, having dropped both of its games last season. Georgia College, outside the most recent NCAA Southeast Region Poll, will probably need a PBC Tournament win in order to advance to the NCAA Regional Tournament.
The Georgia College Department of Athletics, two-time winners of the PBC Commissioner's Cup, sponsors 11 varsity athletic programs at the NCAA Division II level.
