MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The Georgia College baseball team (21-9) scored 10 runs on 15 hits to take down Pfeiffer University (13-23) 10-5 Saturday. The win gives the Bobcats a three-game series sweep. The Bobcats have now rattled off seven wins in a row.
A 1-1 game was busted open by a five-run second inning. Catcher Steve Hazel (Kentwood, Mich.) hit a solo home run to start that rally, his fourth of the season. Rob Hogenkamp (St. Louis) added an RBI single, while Ikaika Anderson (Austell, Ga.) and Jake Sandlin (Evans, Ga.) each had run-scoring doubles in the frame.
Righty starter Matt LaMothe (Troy, Mich.) went seven innings in the win (5-2), allowing five runs and eight hits while striking out four.
Hazel finished 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run, while Hogenkamp had two hits in four trips, adding a run scored to his RBI. Anderson had another impressive day, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs. Sandlin added a home run to that RBI double, posting a 3-for-5 effort from the leadoff spot, driving in four runs and scoring another pair. Sandlin's two-run shot in the fifth was his fourth of the season as well.
The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, April 3 at 6 p.m., hosting Toccoa Falls College. Tuesday will serve as Georgia College's annual "Miracle League Day" raising funds and awareness for the baseball league for children with mental and physical disabilities.
