Bobcat Baseball Takes Down Augusta State 7-3 for Series Sweep

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – For the second time this season, the Georgia College baseball team (18-9, 10-5 PBC) swept a Peach Belt Conference (PBC) series, as the Bobcats beat Augusta State University (10-21, 3-12 PBC) 7-3 Monday at John Kurtz Field.

Augusta State picked up a 1-0 lead, posting the game's first run on a sacrifice fly from shortstop Hunter Boose.

The Bobcats responded with a five-run second inning, highlighted by a two-run triple from rightfielder Ikaika Anderson (Austell, Ga.). The game would remain 5-1 until the seventh.

The Jaguars brought it to 5-3 in the top of the seventh, thanks in large part to a Lance Mangrum two-run single.

Again the Bobcats answered immediately, plating two of their own in the bottom half, holding on for a 7-3 final.

Anderson finished 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI, adding a double to that triple for five total bases over two hits. Shortstop Daniel Bick (Alpharetta, Ga.) also went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run. Second baseman Rob Hogenkamp (St. Louis, Mo.) finished off the multi-hit performers with two hits in three trips, scoring a run as well.

Righty starter Matt LaMothe (Troy, Mich.) was solid on the hill, allowing three runs on eight hits over seven innings for the win (4-2). The senior fanned six while walking a pair. Lefty Christian Bragg (Augusta, Ga.) tossed the final two innings, not allowing a hit.

ASU starter David Bermudez (2-2) took the loss in two innings of work. Leftfielder Nate Crown had two hits and two walks on the day.

The Bobcats are back in action Friday, March 29 at noon, playing two non-conference contests at Pfeiffer University.
